Liverpool Mental Health Awareness

If you have an idea about how to promote mental health and require funding to turn your project into a reality then Liverpool Mental Awareness provide you with what you need. Their website www.livementalhealth.org.uk offers a wealth of information about mental health promotion and raising awareness. It gives details of how to apply for a small grant to get your project up and running, and offers a fantastic archive of past projects to inspire you on the way. There are two funding deadlines in February and September, check on the website for more details.

Well Read

Looking after your own mental health has just been made a little bit easier thanks to ‘Well Read’. This project provides a range of books on mental health to borrow from your local library. So, if you want to know more about how best to cope with feeling down or stressed (maybe you’ve suffered a bereavement or are feeling angry), there might just be a book for you. There are over thirty books in each ‘Well Read’ collection in each of the 24 branch libraries throughout Liverpool. You can read about the books at the Liverpool City Council website: www.liverpool.gov.uk/libraries and follow the link to ‘Well Read’.

Talking about it

Have you ever talked about mental health to young people? Do you know any specific techniques that you have used to help facilitate discussion about this subject? Mental health can be an elusive concept for a young audience and for those charged with their education. I am looking out for any tips and techniques you may have about this, so email me at: duncan.young@liverpoolpct.nhs.uk with any suggestions. I am trying to catalogue techniques (they may be games, role playing, paper based exercises etc) so they can be shared with those at the forefront of raising awareness about mental health issues with young people.
